Saw him a few years back ... all of our other halves got us Weller tickets for the Cliffs Pav... I said to my MATES that it should be OK as long as he does not bring a new album out around that time... he did.. and he played the thing from start to finish... we walked out after an hour... shocking shit.... especially when comparing it to seeing the Jam at the same place in 82

All Mod Cons will forever be in my top five albums. Brings back so may childhood memories. Wherever I travel I have it. And when I'm pissed off at work on go the headphones and 'Billy Hunt".

Great songwriter during his best years, but a complete cock now.
In the city was great ... When I listen to that album now I wonder how a teenager wrote and performed such an array of songs . The cover of Slow Down is easily superior to the original and any other covers.. Amazing guitar and the speed of the performance is awesome.
All Mod Cons, Setting Sons and Sound affects and a number of pop classic singles are his legacy.
The style council started brightly but can only think of the Paris stuff and My ever changing moods as anything to include in his best.
Solo wise his first album and wild wood were really good the rest is about of mediocrity
Still its all about opinion ... Happy birthday Paul you are still a musical genius and early hero.

The Jam wernt about for long wether that's what made them so good I don't know.One things for sure in my mind,no other English band got remotely close to banging out so many brilliant songs in such a small space of time.

I used to follow The Jam right from the very early gigs and Weller as well as the others were top fellas who always had time for the fans. Weller got a bit moody in the Style Council but it was Mick Talbot who was a right prick with his head so far up his own arse he could lick his tonsils. Weller got to be even more miserable and moody during his solo career and fell out with most of his own mates and pretty much all to do with his "lifestyle". He's made some great music in his long career but no of it during the Style Council years and not much solo stuff either.

I find him a bit WORKMANLIKE and lacking in poetry, artisty and finesse.

Fuck him . Saw him and Foxton in the One Oak in Frimley early 80s, said hello ,they didn't answer. It had nothing to do with the fact I was very drunk and making a tnuc of myself.
